Hoogerheide World Cup
2010-01-24
Hoogerheide is a great course, designed by an awesome former rider. Personally I think if you didn’t like that course, it’s time to find another game to play. It’s also the course where I crashed last season and missed 3 months of cycling due the injury I sustained. So for me, there are also some bad memories from this course.
With a fully amended course, the start was very different, but my luck was still around 0 out of 10. I took a good line from my 2nd row grid, only for a blur of French skinsuit to wipe me out on the first mud section. It wasn’t her fault, just racing. It still left me 39th through the first pit and already 30 seconds down on the first rider.
I battled hard in the race, really hard. But I was stuck in traffic with nowhere to go. It wasn’t until the 4th lap that I got some clear dirt to ride on. My last 2 laps were in the top 10 fastest from the data the UCI provides us from our ankle timing chips, so I know on a clear run I’d have been well in the top 10 on the day. Annoying, but it still gives me the belief in my form.
In this section of the season, you know you’ve done the hard work. Now it’s making sure you don’t do too much, or get stressed about those big races ahead of you. We booked ourselves a place to stay for the World Cup in Holland at a holiday park. We had a 3 bedroom house between us and had a blast. The site even had a bowling alley. Great fun.
Kona camera man Joe Sales was also with us, taking so cool pics and I’ll get some on the site as soon as possible.
Now it’s off to worlds in Czech Republic.
